Matura schools: What is new?

The types of Matura that were formerly in place have been dispensed with due to the regulations on the recognition of Matura certificates (MAR) of 1995. Instead of this, an optional subject system, including the development and presentation of a larger and self-contained assignment (Matura assignment) and a new curriculum have been introduced. Seven basic subjects, one in-depth subject and a supplementary subject constitute the Matura subjects.  Before the pupils sit the Matura exam, they must have completed the Matura assignment.

EVAMAR
In an extensive study for the implementation of the new Matura curriculum (EVAMAR), the parties directly concerned (pupils, teachers, school directors, responsible bodies of the cantons) have assessed the reform as positive. In a second phase, the pupils' level of education at the end of their Matura education will be evaluated.
Similar to the development of the obligatory schools, a discussion concerning the standard of education and quality assurance has been launched in connection with schools leading to the Matura certificate.
