What happens after graduation?

The recommendation of the Swiss Conference of Cantonal Ministers of Education (EDK) for the continuing education of teaching staff define continuing education as part of the professional contract of the teachers. At the same time, teachers must be allowed to set personal priorities in the choice of their the continuing education. This includes well-organised personnel management within the schools. A further aspect of the continuing education is the acquirement of additional teaching qualifications.

Additional training for the teaching profession
The guidelines of the Swiss Conference of Cantonal Ministers of Education (EDK) for the "Recognition of certificates of additional training for teaching professions of 17 June 2004" outline certain training courses where graduated teachers can qualify for further functions in the field of education. The Swiss Conference of Cantonal Ministers of Education EDK issues corresponding profiles for recognition.
Such additional training enables teaching staff to take over demanding management functions in the school or to use their specialist knowledge to take an active part in school developments.  Generally, the additional training should be offered in modular form and the proof of performance comprises at least 15 ECTS points.

Master courses for continuing education (Master of Advanced Studies MAS)
The universities of teacher education (PH) can also offer advanced Master courses (MAS) for teaching staff with a scope of 60 ECTS points. Upon completion under observance of the respective terms and requirements, these degrees will also be recognised by the Swiss Conference of Cantonal Ministers of Education EDK.
